Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services and additional crews drawn on extensively from a wider surrounding area tackled a ‘vast’ forest and heathland fire in Wareham Forest, Dorset on Monday 18th May. The wildfire travelled 3km over an area of 190 hectares crossing the road between Wareham and Bere in Dorset.
In excess of 25 appliances were onsite at the fire’s peak involving more than 150 crew reducing down to 18 appliances by Thursday with firefighters continuing to dampen down multiple hotspots to reduce the chance of flare-ups. Similar levels of attendance are expected over the next 5 days with some scaling down during the nights.
RRT was on site from Monday the 18th May until Thursday the 21st May. Throughout the duration of the event, RRT provided the crews with over 500 meal bags, plus hot and cold drinks.
