One of the Seven Wonders of the World, The Great Wall of China has to be one of the most impressive building projects the world has ever known. Constructed by human hands over 2000 years ago, it stretches across a hilly region with long spurs and watch-towers often disappearing into the mists.
This October, our very own Cookie the Kookaburra joined the Bournemouth Hospital Charity team for their China Trek – a six day adventure following sections of the Great Wall. As usual, Cookie proved himself to be a trusty mascot, helping to keep the team motivated every step of the way.
This trek took place from the 4th to the 14th of October 2019, with the team aiming to raise as much as possible in sponsorship for the Bournemouth Hospital Charity. The trek was a challenging one and physically demanding for the team, but it also offered fabulous scenery and a fascinating insight into a rich culture and history across the 6 days.
Bournemouth RRT also donated 15 first aid packs for the trek, so the team were prepared for any emergencies.
A huge congratulations to the China challengers who have raised an outstanding £22k and counting!
About the Bournemouth Hospital Charity
Bournemouth Hospital Charity exists to help enhance the care and treatment of patients at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals.
The funds they raise through donations, gifts, legacies and events help to provide the Hospitals with additional facilities and state-of-the-art new equipment as well as resources for staff, over and above what the NHS can fund.
Through their work alongside the community, corporate partners and the many other supporters and volunteers who give their money and time, they have been able to make a real difference to patients, their families and staff.
With supporter like the China trekkers, they can continue to help the Hospital to go above and beyond.
