Newtown RRT Supports Kerry Defib Group Fund Raising Day

For the 8th September 2018, an active local resident, Dawn Lewis arranged a community fund raising day in the village of Kerry, 4 miles from Newtown. The aim of the day was to provide all the local groups with an opportunity to raise the much needed funds the village requires to keep local amenities and services going. The event started at noon where locals could enjoy a car boot sale, a bouncy castle, a steam train, cakes, coffee, various competitions, children’s races, a dog show and of course, a hot gourmet burger cooked and prepared by local team members from the Rapid Relief Team.

Some of the groups present were Kerry Primary School, Kerry Play Group, the Kerry History Group, The Dogs Trust and the Rapid Relief Team. The Rapid Relief Team donated all the food and all proceeds for the sale of the burgers to the Kerry Defib Group to help pay for the on going costs associated with the defibrillators in the village. Due to the location of the village and the stretched resources of the NHS, waiting times for ambulances can sometimes be longer than they should be, so to have two defibrillators in the village is a huge benefit to the residents. The defibrillators have been organised by Dawn , who is an A&E nurse at Shrewsbury hospital, and also put a huge amount of work into organising the day.

The Fund Raising Day was a huge success with a lot of locals attending and joining in. From the sale of 200 RRT burgers and sausages, £661 was raised for the Defib Group, who were extremely grateful for what was done. Dawn Lewis said, ‘I can’t thank you and your team enough for what you provided us with today, we were blown away with your setup, team work, professionalism and your food!!! Thank you so much, you’re all amazing!! We took £661from your BBQ. Huge amount!!! So grateful’. One thankful resident returned to the tent to say ‘thank you very much for the burger, absolutely beautiful, lovely food’
